TRAMPOLINING IN SCHOOLS On 2 December 2001 eight pupils from Hailsham Community College in East Sussex accompanied by Miss Brady, Mr Webster and Karen Street, traveled to Haywards Heath to compete in the schools first trampolining competition.
The standard was exceptionally high with members from the Great Britain Trampolining Squad competing. All the girls involved have been working hard towards the competition by attending an after school trampolining club. The girls competed in two different age groups, the under-14 and the under-18 sections. Each of the competitors had to perform a compulsory 10-bounce routine, after which they were rank ordered. They then went on to perform their voluntary routine where they were given the option to be creative.
Jump Trampoline Club, Hailsham - Having a devil of a time
This was the beginning of something big, which is now a feature many boys and girls in Hailsham are proud to be involved in. The Club was established in 1979. They enjoy every aspect of trampolining, a dedicated group that train whenever they can. Over the last few years the 'Jump' group have competed in the Regional School championships with improving results. In 2005 the club gained 5 medals qualifying for the zonals. A team from H.C.C qualified for the National School championships in Wales. As you may see for yourselves by using the links below this club take trampoline and transform it into an art.
The JUMP club now attracts many more students who put on a show each year, including dance and synchronised trampolining. The College has since obtained Sports College & Business and Enterprise status and academic awards. Hailsham Community College is situated in the market town of Hailsham, East Sussex.

TRAMPOLINE CLUB INFO: Coach: KAREN STREET Qualification: Club Coach (Advanced Part 1) Experience: 25 Years Teaching Trampoline
The club is based at the market town of Hailsham, some 6 miles from Eastbourne in East Sussex. The club was formed in Hailsham 25 years ago as an adult only class. After two years the club moved to the Leisure Centre when they expanded to include a childrens class.
It was quickly recognised that they needed to start more children’s classes and are currently running four beginners groups two advanced children’s groups and two mixed and advanced adult classes. Each group has 14 members. At 15 years the children are recognised as adults and they join the two 1½ hour sessions for the adults on Thursday nights. Each of the classes are currently full and we have many more people waiting and trying to book onto the appropriate course. The problem of not having enough courses running to cope with the demand is currently under revision and we hope to either put on more classes or increase the trampolines and coaches available on current course nights.

As children achieving a recognised skill level they are moved into the next advanced group. These groups are only accessible though the coach’s knowledge of the gymnast and when the is assessed as ready. All classes are structured around the trampoline award system starting from award 4 and moving along to award 10. The advanced students carry on through award 11 & 12, Bronze, Silver and Gold. If all this is achieved the gymnast has reached a very high standard of trampoline. At present the club have about 30 people working through these higher levels.
