Ardingly is a village in West Sussex, England, approximately halfway between London and the coastal city of Brighton. This area is part of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty known as the High Weald.

Notable points of interest are the Ardingly Reservoir and the extensive grounds of "Kew in the Country" at Wakehurst Place. St Peter's Church, situated towards the western end of the village, dates from the 14th century. Ardingly College is also located in the village.

Jon Snow, the television newscaster, was born in Ardingly.

Events

This quiet rural village is dormant for most of the year with notable exceptions being the month of June in which two major events take place. The South East England Agricultural show in early June and the London to Brighton cycle event (usually held on Father's Day) attract visitors from across the country.  Other events take place during the year, such as :

Transport

Nearby Horsted Keynes has a section of the Bluebell Railway, the steam trains of which can be heard from Ardingly during the summer months.

The area of the Ardingly British Rail station is now a freight yard only, this is since the 1960s, after the branch line from East Grinstead was closed by British Railways Beeching plan.

However, sometime in the future the station will be reinstated with the Bluebell Railway. For the first time since the 1960s. Some work has now started on the push to the north towards East Grinstead and south so the Bluebell Railway can join with national rail network at Haywards Heath. There are plans for a new station to be built at some point, around the area of the old station.

An Agricultural Show is a public event showcasing the equipment, animals, sports and recreation associated with the occupations of agriculture and animal husbandry. The largest of these comprise a Livestock show (a judged event or display in which breeding stock is exhibited) a trade fair and other competitions and entertainment. The terms agricultural show and livestock show are sometimes used synonymously. In addition, the work and practices of farmers, animal fanciers, cowboys and zoologists may also be on display.
