Tesco Security Incident Eastbourne
An incident was reported to us recently, where two pensioners (a couple) were accosted by a security guard at a Tesco store in Eastbourne, East Sussex.
Apparently, the couple concerned were regular shoppers at the store in Lottbridge Drove, Eastbourne. Having completed their usual Monday shop on September 5th, they were busy checking the goods against the till receipt in two trolleys in the foyer when a security guard accosted them in a loud voice which brought shoppers and other staff to a halt to watch the unfolding events. This procedure was custom and practice - the couple having adopted a pattern which caught mistakes early and avoided the need to return at a later date to correct errors (pricing and overcharging), not that the couple are complaining of this.
The guard enquired as to payment, the inference being clear, that the shoppers had not yet paid but were heading for the car park. In effect they were being accused of shoplifting in about as subtle a fashion as a bull charging a gate.
A Tesco Security Guard (not the one concerned)
The issues here are character and unwarranted attacks on persons of good character. Not unnaturally, the couple concerned were and are extremely embarrassed by the incident. It spoiling their hitherto unblemished enjoyment of the Tesco experience. To say the guard concerned was heavy handed would be an understatement.
This matter was brought to the attention of Sir Terry Leahy, the Chief Executive Officer. Unfortunately, Sir Terry was reluctant to respond, leaving the couple scarred and apprehensive. Can it be that a giant such as Tesco able to influence shopping habits of the vast majority of the UK population, could not be bothered to reply to persons directly affected in such a way................. Tesco is a supermarket chain that as of 2019 uses plastic in their packaging, some of which ends up on beaches and in rivers where it may be washed out to sea to join millions of tons of floating plastic in five gyres.

Solar Cola - a healthier alternative
A number of supermarket chains produce their own cola drinks which they display with some prominence. They also stock the leading brands. However, do they stock smaller label brands in the spirit of fair competition? Do they have a fair trade policy?
If you fancy trying a different cola, a cola with more in it, more healthy ingredients, a cola company that cares about the environment - that actually supports environmental projects, you're in luck. But does your supermarket stock Solar Cola yet?
